As Imo supplementary election is slated for Saturday, April 25, in 23 Local Government Areas, opposition groups in the state have regrouped again to prepare for the final showdown.
Our reporter gathered that political activities heightened over the weekend when APGA, PDP and minor opposition groups held secret meetings secretly to ensure that APC does not command the power in Imo State.
Sources revealed to this newspaper that after the meeting that the group resolved to restrict any move to rig the election by Governor Rochas Okorocha, the APC guber candidate and his followers.
The group leaders of the opposition (names withheld) at a strategic meeting in neighbouring state were said to have agreed to form an alliance and direct their supporters in Imo State to vote massively for Chief Emeka Ihedioha, the PDP guber candidate in Imo State.
The South-South and Southeast caucus of PDP, APGA and other major parties few days ago met at Rivers State to agree on certain political issues. The key political leaders agreed that the South-South and Southeast should now form a formidable opposition against APC, adding that Imo and Abia States should remain PDP states. It was also agreed that no person from PDP or other major parties in the area should cross carpet to APC.
Meanwhile, a PDP chieftain in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of Imo State, Chief Tony Ahunaya in a chat with Trumpeta reporter on Sunday in Owerri, hinted that it was Governor Rochas Okorocha and his group that rigged the last election in Imo. He condemned the rigging in strong terms and insisted that the governor should not be allowed to benefit from the blunders he has committed so far in Imo State. Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN) who also raised eyebrows on the electoral fraud said it is surprising for a governor to rig election in a state he claims to be very popular. Other PDP chieftains who spoke to journalists faulted INEC as they insisted that Chief Emeka Ihedioha should be declared winner of the guber election.
