Kano Pillars will be crowned Nigeria Premier League champions today after Ocean Boys were thrown out of the league for missing two straight games.
Reports reaching Imo Trumpeta indicates that the Board of the Nigeria Premier League on Wednesday finally enforced the rule that Ocean Boys be expelled from the league after they failed to honor two straight games during the season and in effect all points for and against them have been deducted from the team effected.
NPL Board member Abdulrazaq Owollabi Wopa confirmed the Ocean Boys decision which has been and contributed to the long delay of the 2011/12 season.
“Ocean Boys have been expelled from the league and all the points involving them during the season have been deducted,” said Owollabi.
If the decision stands, it will mean that Pillars will today be celebrating their second NPL trophy after their 2008 triumph. They are the biggest beneficiaries of this ruling as they remain top of the league on 60 points after the four points they recorded against Ocean Boys were deducted.
Lobi Stars will remain in second place on 57 points going into their last game away at Kaduna United but Rangers could miss out on finishing even as runner-up as they have now slipped to 55 points.
The Governor of Enugu had earlier promised cash rewards and a car to every member of the team if they win Sharks in their last game in Enugu and be crowned NPL Champions.
