The lawmaker representing Orlu zone, (Imo West) senatorial district, Senator Hope Uzodinma seems to be fighting against going to jail following a court order reportedly issued in Abuja urging the police to arrest him, even as the heavyweight lawmaker has dismissed the issue as unrealistic. It was gathered that Uzodinma’s arrest was ordered by the court for alleged issuance of Dud cheque.

According to the report, Justice Abdulwahab Mohammed of the Grade 1 Area court, Kubwa, Abuja issued the order on Tuesday following Uzodinma’s failure to attend court to respond to a direct criminal complaint pending against him. The Judge was reported to have said, “pursuant to section 131 of the administration of criminal Justice Act, 2015, a bench warrant is hereby issued against Senator Hope Uzodinma in view of his failure to attend court to answer to the complaint pending against him”.

Reports had it that complaint was issued against Uzodinma and his two companies by Chima Akuzie and Chitex ventures ltd, who claimed that the senator issued them a N200milion UBA dud cheque (bounced cheque).

Meanwhile, senator Uzodinma has described the story as fake news masterminded by his political enemies because of his rising gubernatorial chances in the state, in a statement issued through his legislative assistant.

The statement wondered how a disagreement between two corporate citizens which has been a subject of litigation for some time now, and is still pending at the supreme court found it was to the area court, if not because some political enemies are behind it.

The statement reads, “the facts are clear. Chitek engineering limited was given a sub-contract to supply 1700 sheet pites bank cheque for two hundred million naira was consequently issued to UBA to transfer the valued to Chitek upon successful execution of the said contract.

Chitek failed to execute the contract and still proceeded to attempt to cash the cheque which was not issued in her name in the first place. When the cheque was naturally returned, the company went to court to enforce payment to them. They lost at the high court and Appeal court and the matter is now at Supreme Court”.

According to the Senior Legislative Assistant, the same company that went to the Supreme Court suddenly went to an Abuja area court which has no jurisdiction over matters of limited liability companies and added “it is clear that some political enemies are using this company to dent the image of the distinguished senator”

The statement explained that the attempt to use the Area court to issue an illegal order against the senator has however been quashed by an Abuja federal high court in Abuja on Tuesday. It therefore advised the public to ignore the fake news trending in the social media over the so called bench warrant.
