A grand plan to reduce the strength of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Imo State chapter by the ruling All Progressive Congress APC, has commenced in earnest with mouth-watering offers dangled at some PDP top shots in the State.
According information available to this Newspaper, the APC in Imo State has resolved to collapse PDP in the State by poaching its top officers and known financiers.
TRUMPETA learnt that already plan has been put in motion to convert the State Woman Leader, Chief (Mrs) Maria Mbakwe and Youth Leader, Hon Aburi Ahanonu, with an alleged Three Million Naira (N3m) each.
Trumpeta learnt that the middle man to execute the project code named “Operation Collapse Imo PDP” is the former State Chairman of the party, Bar Charles Ezekwem who recently abandoned PDP for APC.
“Chief Charles Ezekwem has promised them that he will bring all Imo PDP State Working Committee members into APC. As I talk to you now, that plan has commenced” a PDP source told our Reporter.
Trumpeta was told that apart from the State Youth and Woman Leaders, the PDP LGA chairmen are not left out in the exercise.
Trumpeta learnt that while some PDP LGA chairmen are resisting the officer, especially those from Owerri zone, their colleagues from Orlu zone are said not to be talking with confidence.
“Some of the PDP LGA chairmen from Orlu zone may cave in to the temptation, while they appealed that they be allowed for now, until after the forthcoming PDP congress to know their fate” A source told Trumpeta.
It was also said that most of PDP Aspirants who failed to pick tickets in the last election are also major targets of the APC poaching machine in Imo State.
Speaking to Trumpeta, the Imo PDP State Publicity Secretary, Damian Opara said that PDP was aware of the APC plan to weaken Imo PDP, but said that Imo PDP is so strong on ground that nobody can collapse the PDP in the State.
He said that PDP has a survival mechanism, which is that its members are satisfied with the party so much that easy lucre hardly tempts real PDP followers, adding that however, as a Law of nature, in every twelve there must be a Judas.
