Following the reported killing of a septuagenarian in Agwa Community of Oguta LGA of Imo State by suspected Herdsmen from the Northern part of the country, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state has challenged the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, to address the matter.
In a statement made available to Trumpeta, tilted “Address Imo people On Alleged Killing Of Agwa Oguta Citizen by Herdsmen” the state chapter stated that “it is squarely appalled that after one week of the sad incident of the alleged killing of Citizen Ozoemena Iliaka of Agwa Community in Oguta Local Government Area of the State by herdsmen, nothing official has been heard from Government House, Owerri. This party feels it is high time Senator Uzodimma addressed the State and the people on the worrisome incident that has been creating tension not only in that LGA, but also in other LGAs with presence of herdsmen.
“Our party feels that the fact that the alleged murder of Citizen Ozoemena Iliaka was linked to an alleged attack by herdsmen warrants the serious attention and reaction of the current regime. This party feels disturbed that so far after one week, not a word has been heard from Douglas House. Does it mean that people in power in Imo State did not get information about the dastard incident? Or is the regime silent because the alleged death of an Imo citizen in the hands of the herdsmen is of no consequence(s)?
“The Imo PDP is worried just as many well-meaning Imolites are, that besides the reported efforts of the Honourable Member representing Oguta State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Farnk Ugboma, there is no other evidence of government involvement in the tensed situation in Oguta LGA, following the alleged attacks by herdsmen, which resulted in the death of Citizen Ozoemena Iliaka of Agwa Community in Oguta LGA.
The statement signed by the Acting State Publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike further states;
“Our party, therefore, hereby call on Senator Hope Uzodimma to, as a matter of urgency and importance, address Imo people on the circumstances that led to the sad killing of the citizen. This party is convinced that the such a grievous incident demands for thorough inquiry and investigation that should come up with the immediate and remote cause(s) of the attack and resultant loss of life. Our party expects that such inquiry should also proffer recommendations that will forestall any reoccurrence in the future. The life of every Imo citizen should matter and be of concern to this regime”
