Tension As Gunmen Over run Police In Imo

An air of insecurity is reigning in Imo State as suspected criminals are on the lose again.
Tension has crept in the State following attack visited on men of the Nigeria police, Imo State command by armed men.
According to reports Trumpeta monitored, daredevil gunmen on Monday reportedly over powered a police team at Owerri Nkworji area of Nkwerre LGA. Trumpeta learnt that the rampaging gang upon attacking the police team with dangerous weapons later inflicted one of them, a sergeant with matchete cuts before snatching his riffle.
To worsen the case of the police men, their operational vehicle, a Sienna, was set ablaze while the policemen with matchete cut died later after he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Further information has it that a similar incident took place at Egbu, in Owerri North LGA where hoodlums ambushed another team of policemen before launching attack on them.
In the process, a service riffle was stolen and various degrees of injuries handed to them.
This newspaper has discovered that the incident has created tension among the citizens with the residents scared stiff that their lives are in danger if gunmen overrun police in the state.
Meanwhile, the regular checkpoints have reduced since the incidents occurred on Monday and Tuesday fuelling further speculations that no one is safe in Imo.
