Members of the Association of British Nigeria Councillors, UK has maintained that Cllr. Anna Mbachu is the defacto chairperson of association and not Kate Anolue.

This is following skirmishes that broke out in the association, resulting in the aggrieved group breaking away to form a faction away from the existing body.

This same issue it was gathered, was addressed by the Nigeria High Commissioner and Council of Elders who intervened to bring lasting peace to the association thus avoiding factionalisation.

Part of measures put in place to ensure peace by the Council of elders and the High commissioner was to ractify existing position whilst nomination to fill vacant post is received from the aggrieved faction.

Despite the immense efforts to mediate and reconcile the members, the proposal put forward was rejected by the group led by Mr. Aminu.

In a release by the Publicity Secretary of the association, Cllr Taslim Gbaja-Biamila who refuted the claims of the one Jenny Okafor alleged to be a relative of the factional leader, Cllr Kate Anolue maintaining, that her claims were not only ridiculous but full of lies aimed at deceiving the public and an attempt to distort the truth.

The said Miss Jenny Okafor according to him, is alleged to be a solicitor who was once disciplined by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in the UK for financial mismanagement of clients funds

He further informed that, the zoom meeting held on the 14th January by Nigeria stakeholders in UK to address the lingering issue, with one Mr Aminu who lost his seat as a councillor in 2018 representing the breakaway faction and Cllr Anna Mbachu, met the absence of Mr Aminu who claimed to not be aware of the meeting, after being duly informed.

Cllr Gbaja-Biamila explained that part of the agreement reached in the meeting and endorsed by the Acting High Commissioner was that, Cllr. Anna Mbachu who was elected Vice Chair is ractified as chairman following the resignation of the Chair.

The following position, Cllr. Tubo Uranta from Assist Secretary to assume Secretary while Cllr. Taslim Gbaja-Biamila remain the Publicity Secretary of the association.

While also agreeing that the other faction nominate sitting councillors to fill in the position of Vice-chairman, Assistant secretary and Financial secretary.

According to him, the newly constituted exco team it was proposed, will remain in office for the duration of their terms as specified in the old constitution.

While thanking the council of elders and the office of the High commissioner for efforts to reconcile the factions, he wondered what Mr Aminu had against the proposal if not for his quest for power and the fact that it did not fit into his personal business agenda which he has been using the association to promote.
