The Umbrella Socio-Cultural, cum political Body guarding Igbo Nation, the Ohaneze Ndigbo led by Ambassador Prof George Obiozor has made it clear that it has not yet spoken about the latest arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB.
Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, the Igbo Apex Group said that “The Attention of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has been recently drawn to a publication currently circulating in the Media suggesting that Ohaneze Ndigbo has issued a statement regarding the alleged arrest and arraignment of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of Indigenious People of Biafra IPOB”.
The organization said it was still studying the matter, and yet to issue any statement stating that the public should disregard the alleged statements, as it did not come from Ohaneze Ndigbo.
Meanwhile reacting on the matter, a pro Igbo group World Igbo Congress (WIC), says it has been briefed on the abduction and arraignment of Nnamdi Kanu in Nigeria and that court hearing is scheduled for July 26, 2021.
It has also been confirmed to us that Nnamdi Kanu, a British citizen, was abducted in a country other than the United Kingdom to which he travelled on British passport. Consequently, this raises the specter of illegal abduction that violates the spirit of the process of extradition.
World Igbo Congress, therefore, calls on:
“The Nigerian Government to ensure that Nnamdi Kanu is treated in accordance with the rules and international conventions that guarantee that his rights and personal safety are protected.
“The British government to stand up and defend the right of her citizen. The UK government needs to investigate the collusion of any other country or party in this saga.
“The Igbo at home and abroad to see this as a continuation of the different strokes for different folks, the world should take notice  of Boko Haram insurgents and Fulani herdsmen who have been designated as terrorists by known international agencies.
The statement signed by Prof Anthony Ejiofor and Basil Onwukwe, chairman and public Relations Officer respectively further states.
All Igbo worldwide to remain calm. The rights of the Igbo must be protected.
