With the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, giving the green light for parties to commence preparations for governorship election in Imo State, one party, the number of aspirants seeking to be the flagbearer is Labour Party.

Before this dispensation, Labour Party has been relatively unknown with no structure and elected member in the State. But with the entrance of Peter Obi into the party and emergence as Presidential candidate has boosted the fortune of the Party in Imo State.

In the last count, not less than eight persons are tipped to be interested to be the candidate of Labour Party for the November 2023 Governorship election.

Already, Trumpeta got informed that Ike .C. Ibe, a former lawmaker and perennial contestants for the office of the governor has paid N25m for the form.

Ibe from Obowo, according to grapevine sources had his form courtesy of groups as well as  Imolites resident in Abuja.

Similarly, another household name in the politics of Imo State, Chief Martin Agbaso has also shown to be the next number one citizen of the State.

Agbaso who had ran for governor under UNCP and APGA in the past picked form on Wednesday from the party to begin the race for the showdown.

Others said to be interested and tipped to pick forms too are the former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kelechi Kennedy Nwagwu, a retired Army General, Charles Ogunewe and Senator Athan Achonu.

Said to be coming up again to seek the mandate of the people in the State for Governorship contest are Chief Humphrey Anumudu, one time PDP Owerri Zone Senatorial aspirant, Basil Maduka, Senator Christy Anyanwu and Librus Awulonu who donated his edifice to the party for office purposes.
