PHILANTHROPY: JOY AS CHIEF CHARLES ORIE FOUNDATION PAYS TUITION FEES FOR 20 FUTO STUDENTS

Owerri – It was a day of joy and tears of gratitude at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri [FUTO] as the Chief Charles Orie Foundation stormed the institution and paid the tuition fees of twenty indigent students who were on the verge of dropping out.

The visit of the Foundation’s delegation brought relief to the beneficiaries drawn from different departments across the university. Many of the students, who had been unable to pay their school fees due to the economic hardship facing their families, broke down in tears as their fees were confirmed paid.

Addressing the students and the University management, the leader of the delegation, Hon. Bethel Nwosu, said the gesture was part of the Chief Charles Orie Foundation’s commitment to education and youth development.

“Education is the greatest empowerment you can give to a young person. The Foundation was touched when it heard that some of our bright students may drop out because of school fees. No child should abandon education because of poverty. That is why the Chief Charles Orie Foundation decided to intervene.”

The Foundation charged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and to become responsible citizens who will help others tomorrow.

The Vice-Chancellor of FUTO, represented by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Chukwuemeka Chukwuocha, commended the Chief Charles Orie Foundation for its consistent philanthropy, describing it as “an organisation with a heart of gold whose kindness is felt beyond its community.”

One of the beneficiaries, a 300-level student who spoke on behalf of others, said: “We thought it was all over for us this session. The Chief Charles Orie Foundation has just saved our future. We pray God will continue to bless the Foundation.”

A Consistent Record of Philanthropy

This latest gesture by the Chief Charles Orie Foundation is not an isolated act.

It will be recalled that in recent months, the Foundation paid the hospital bills of many indigent patients at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri and other hospitals in Imo State, who had been treated and discharged but could not go home due to their inability to pay their bills.

In the same spirit of compassion, the Foundation also facilitated the release of several inmates from the Owerri Correctional Centre by paying the fines and compensations imposed on them by the courts, giving them a second chance at life.

Last year alone, five orphanages across Imo State benefited immensely from the Chief Charles Orie Foundation through donations of food items, educational materials, cash support and other relief materials.

Stakeholders have described the Chief Charles Orie Foundation as a rare philanthropic organisation whose work is impacting the poor, the sick, the imprisoned, the orphaned and the student community.

With this intervention at FUTO, twenty families have been relieved, twenty academic dreams have been restored, and a strong message has been sent – that kindness still exists.
