Even as the whistle has not been blown to kick start hostilities for the 2027/8 Imo State Governorship election, war of words has commenced in earnest within the circle of Owerri political leaders.
At the centre of the altercation are the one of the leaders of APC in Owerri Zone and strong pillar of the party in the state, Chief Charles Amadi, otherwise known as Chalvon and Senator Sam Daddy Anyanwu, the PDP national secretary, reported to be running for the governorship ticket of the party.
Trumpeta observed that both parties are throwing words at each other over the issue of Owerri Zone producing the next Governor of Imo State.
Moments after the group led by Chalvon working under APC dropped a statement, media allies of Samdaddy before APC issued a statement in that regard.
PDP in a statement signed by Ikenna Onuoha, Adviser, Media took a swipe on Chalvon and co alleging that the
2027 Media Directorate of Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, a frontline Governorship hopeful has been drawn to a mischievous, misleading and selfish story circulating in the media that a faceless group, “Owerri Zone United” led by one Charles Amadi has resolved that only a Governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) will be supported by the group on behalf of Owerri zone in the 2027 Governorship election.
According to the SamDaddy group “This hasty and ignoble resolution is not only madness, childish and selfish but a designed ploy by jobless individuals to enrich themselves and exploit gullible individuals. This is another platform by Charles Amadi and co-travelers to revive and support the sustainance of stomach infrastructure which they have enjoined for long.
“It is worthy to note that the same Charles Amadi and his political “gangsters” used “Owerri Zone Political Leaders’ Forum (OZOPOLF) to criminally enrich themselves and traded the ambition of Owerri zone people for monetary exchange in 2015.
“Today, it is shameful that same man and his group are busy going round, deceiving gullible individuals, especially those from Owerri zone that he has the capacity to enthrone a Governor of Owerri zone extraction in 2027 by mere communique.
“The question is, what has Charles Amadi and his group done to improve the wellbeing of Owerri zone people? A man who is the habit of forming “faceless” group(s) during election period simply to extort money from desperate politicians should not be taken seriously.
“It is an insult to every well meaning Owerri son and daughter that same man, Charles Amadi who selfishly and deliberately destroyed the stand of Owerri zone to produce Governor in 2015 is today, taking a personal decision on behalf of the zone simply because, a particular political party has promised to sponsor heneuos agenda with 500 million.
“Another serious question is how could a person of this character, highly greedy, inconsistent and inconsequential speak for Owerri zone regarding the 2027 Governorship election?
“Annoyingly, the same party, APC Charles Amadi is speaking for is insensitive to the plight of Imo citizens. A party that has destroyed the unity, peace and security of lives and property of the Imo people should not be taken seriously.
“The public should disregard this call for the support of APC Governorship candidate in the 2027 Governorship election”
Earlier, Owerri
Zone United had through the spokesperson, Ononuju after a caucus meeting of October 18th, 2026 under the leadership of Chalvon
resolved to renew and strengthen their support for his administration, leadership and vision for the state.
“Having considered the giant strides recorded under his administration, we commend his investments in road construction and rehabilitation, urban renewal, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, workers’ welfare and other critical sectors. We particularly recognise the establishment of the Imo Robotics and Oncology Centre and the Skill Up Imo programme as significant contributions to healthcare delivery and youth development”
The statement further states;
We believe these achievements deserve recognition and that our appreciation must translate into concrete political support for the Governor and his vision for Imo State.
MOTION ADOPTED: APC AS OUR SOLE POLITICAL PLATFORM
At the meeting, a motion was moved and adopted that Owerri Zone United would pursue its political aspirations and political support exclusively through the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Consequently, we resolved to support APC candidates across all levels of government, from the presidency and Senate to the House of Representatives and the Imo State House of Assembly. This decision reflects our commitment to party unity, political consistency and our determination to honour Governor Uzodimma through the political platform with which he has pursued his vision for Imo State.
WE WILL THROW OUR FULL WEIGHT BEHIND UZODINMA’S PREFERRED SUCCESSOR FROM OWERRI ZONE
On the question of succession, our position is clear and unequivocal: Owerri Zone United is committed to the emergence of the next Governor of Imo State from Owerri Zone on the platform of the APC, with the support and endorsement of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
We will stand firmly behind whoever His Excellency presents as his preferred candidate from Owerri Zone to succeed him. We will throw our full political weight behind that candidate and mobilise our members, supporters and political structures to ensure that our collective position is translated into meaningful action.
This decision demonstrates the confidence we repose in the Governor’s leadership, experience and political judgment. Having acknowledged his developmental achievements and the direction he has given the state, we consider it appropriate to support his preferred choice for succession as a demonstration of our loyalty and trust.
We believe that an APC successor from Owerri Zone, in line with the Governor’s preferred direction, offers an opportunity to sustain the developmental gains of the present administration and advance the interests of our zone within Imo State.
RALLIES ACROSS THE FOUR FEDERAL CONSTITUENCIES, OF OWERRI ZONE AND A DECEMBER MEGA RALLY IN MUNICPAL.
To translate our resolutions into action, a motion was moved for the organisation of rallies across the four federal constituencies of Owerri Zone, followed by a major rally in Owerri Zone Federal Constituencies in November and a mega rally in December, at Municipal ahead of the election.
The rallies will serve as platforms for mobilising our people, sensitising the public on our political position, showcasing the achievements of Governor Uzodimma’s administration and building support for the APC and the emergence of an Owerri Zone successor.
The November rally in Owerri Zone will consolidate the mobilisation efforts across the four federal constituencies, while the December mega rally will provide a broader platform to demonstrate our unity, strength and commitment to the political direction we have adopted.
We call on our members, supporters and political stakeholders across Owerri Zone to remain united and participate actively in these planned activities as we work towards achieving our collective objectives.
*OUR COMMITMENT TO GOVERNOR UZODINMA AND IMO STATE*
Our resolutions are clear: we appreciate Governor Uzodimma’s developmental achievements, we have adopted the APC as our sole political platform, and we are committed to supporting his preferred successor from Owerri Zone.
We assure His Excellency of our continued solidarity and readiness to mobilise our people and structures in support of his political direction. Our commitment is rooted in trust, loyalty and the conviction that the progress recorded under his administration deserves to be sustained.
We therefore call on our members and supporters to remain disciplined, united and focused as we prepare for the political engagements ahead.
Owerri Zone United stands with Governor Hope Uzodimma, remains committed to the APC and will throw its full weight behind his preferred successor from Owerri Zone. This is our collective resolution and our demonstration of confidence in his leadership and political judgment.
Based on the development, Imo State APC chapter State Publicity Secretary, Imo State Ambrose Nwaogwugwu states;
2028 Imo Governorship: “Sam Baby” Should Face His FCT Errands and Leave Owerri Zone Politics to Serious Leaders
The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Owerri Zone, has been drawn to a desperate, incoherent and laughable press release issued by the so-called Media Directorate of Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, who likes to call himself “Sam Daddy” but whose conduct marks him out as nothing more than “Sam Baby,” a political infant throwing tantrums while the adults are talking.
We would ordinarily ignore such noise. A man who cannot win his own polling unit has no business lecturing anyone on governorship politics, let alone presenting himself as a “frontline governorship hopeful.” Sam Baby’s political relevance in Imo State today exists only in his press releases. Even at home, among his own people, he has repeatedly failed to command the votes needed to justify the ambition he keeps advertising.
It is therefore amusing that a baby politician with no electoral value would describe a genuine grassroots movement as “faceless.” The only thing faceless in Imo politics today is Sam Baby’s support base.
Let it be clearly stated: Chief Charles Amadi is a respected, tested and accomplished leader from Owerri zone. His commitment to the cause of the zone is well known, and his current engagements are part of a deliberate, well-structured preparatory process that will culminate in an Owerri zone son or daughter, of APC extraction, taking over the Government House in 2028. No amount of crying and insults from a political toddler will derail that mission.
The allegation that Chief Amadi and other stakeholders are pursuing a purported ₦500 million arrangement is particularly serious. We challenge the authors of that allegation to produce credible evidence, identify the alleged financiers and explain the circumstances of the supposed transaction.
The APC in Owerri zone fully endorses the position that only our great party can produce the next governor of Imo State after His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma. This is not sentiment; it is political reality. There is currently no other political party in Imo State with the structure, spread or strength to challenge the APC. The opposition is fractured, leaderless and busy fighting itself in courtrooms. Sam Baby knows this better than anyone, as his own party remains a theatre of crisis he has been unable to resolve.
Instead of issuing reckless statements about Owerri zone, Sam Baby should concentrate on his errand jobs at the residence of the FCT Minister, where he appears to be most useful these days. Running errands in Abuja does not qualify anyone to speak when leaders and serious governorship aspirants in Owerri zone are speaking. In politics, as in any decent home, babies are seen and not heard when elders are deliberating.
The people of Owerri zone are not confused. They know who has stood with them, and they know who only remembers Imo when an election is approaching. We therefore urge the good people of Owerri zone and Imo State at large to disregard the ranting of Sam Baby and his media aides, and to remain firmly behind the APC and the Owerri zone agenda for 2027.
Owerri zone will spea
k with one voice, and that voice will not come from Abuja errand boys or political babies.
