LGA Elections Must Hold April 27 .ISIEC Insists, Rollout Programmes for Aspirants

The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has moved a step further to demonstrate its willingness to conduct April 27, 2013 local government elections in Imo State.

The Commission recently rolled out its programmes before the conduct of the polls which include the IMSU/ICAPS/ISIEC leadership training programme.

Some of the participants, mainly Local Government and Chairmanship aspirants, Tuesday, paid a courtesy call to the ISIEC boss, Barr. Teddy Akwari.

In his speech, the ISIEC Chairman maintained that local government election in Imo State will hold despite all odds, emphasizing that the leadership programme which they have undergone will aid them win election as they have acquired leadership skills. “The IMSU/ICAPS/ISIEC leadership training will impact into your knowledge positively. The certificate alone is enough for us to clear you. You have an advantage to win having gone through this leadership forum. It is a criterion for contesting the local government election. The certificate remains valid indefinitely. Try and be generous as to win the confidence of your people. Also recognize the electorate in your areas”.

Barr. Akwari stressed that any aspirant who did not pass through the leadership training will find it difficult to be cleared to contest election.

He advised them to shun political thuggery, and comport themselves properly. While thanking the ISIEC Chairman for giving them the opportunity to have undergone the leadership forum, the leader of the group, Comrade DivinePaul Eze, who is a councillorship aspirant in Umunna, Isiaku, Ideato South, LGA, begged that the forum be upgraded to a diploma level.

A chairmanship aspirant, Duru Uche, a pledged that the fees for the leadership training be paid at different installment.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Michael Obianigwe who is the Chairmanship aspirant in Orlu LGA, eulogized the ISIEC Chairman for organizing such an enlightenment leadership programme.
