The atmosphere at Umuopia-Akokwa autonomous community in Ideato North Council Area of Imo State was electricifying last weekend when Governor Rochas Okorocha commissioned a new International market built by the community.
Governor Okorocha described Umuopia as a first class community in Imo State adding that such market establishment initiative symbolizes unity and peaceful co-existence in the community.
Governor Okorocha reiterated that the market was built via efforts of leaders in Umuopia community, stating that such people of goodwill would help to promote policies of community Government Council in Imo State.
He assured the community that Government would always bring them to the fore front of its scheme of things, adding that any community that is not productive after next two years will cease to get attention from the government.
Earlier, the President General of Umuopia Central Union, Mayor (Sir) Anthony Chukwuma Okpara who is fondly called Ogbuonyaragu Gburugburu thanked Governor Okorocha for honouring the occasion.
Sir Okpara described the gesture as the day of celebrating good leadership, reuniting with friends, well-wishers of Umuopia-Akokwa autonomous community.
According to him, the Ideato international market, Umuopia, is the brain child of the current executive leaders of Umuopia town unionwhich is only two years in office.
He enumerated various achievements of his administration such as completion of Umuopia Civic Centre, ongoing Umuopia Central water borehole project, among others.
The President General commended the Opia of Umuopia HRH, Eze Don Opurozor for his tireless efforts to ensure that the dreams of Umuopia community becomes a reality, describing him as the engine room, motivator and father of progress of the community.
Sir Okpara further called on Governor Okorocha to come to their aid by carrying out more water borehole projects, electricity sub-stations (electricity) and transformers, opening track roads will that lead to the market and tarring of the market premises.
Adding his voice, his counterpart president General of Akunwanta Town Union in Arondizogu, Mazi Okwudili Owunna Ogbukati maintained that Umuopia people should thank God for giving them purpose driven leaders that had built such magnificent project in the community.
