A ranking police officer (names withheld) is telling men of the State Police Command his reasons for entering premises of the Customary Court, Owerri to collect sand.
The Police Officer is said to be a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a DPO in one of the Local Governments Area of Akwa Ibom State was apprehended at the Customary Court premises, Owerri, by security operatives for allegedly scooping the sand from the ground.
Trumpeta learnt that the police officer found his way into the premises at the Customary Court Office in New Owerri, near the Imo Speaker’s lodge, at an odd hour to pick sand when some eagle eyed security men nabbed him. In the course of interrogation, the suspect revealed his identity as a police officer serving as a DPO in Akwa Ibom. He was subsequently taken to New Owerri Police station where the case was lodged for further investigation.
It was however learnt that the matter has been transferred to the state headquarters as the Commissioner of Police was reported to have demanded for the suspect.
The motive of the police officer for picking sand from the Customary Court premises could not be ascertained but it was gathered that the action may not be unconnected to a pending land case involving the policeman, who is from Imo State. Unconfirmed sources have it that the sand from the court premises may be needed for either spiritual or fetish ritual for him to get victory at the court.
Efforts to get the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO on the matter were unsuccessful as she could not be reached on phone for more clarification.
