Fake Beer, Alcohol Makers Flood Owerri, As Police Arrest Six Illegal Brewers

Luck ran out of six persons who allegedly specialized in the production and distribution of fake and adulterated injection, wine, hot drinks, beer, bleach and body lotion at their various factories in Aba, Abia State, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Owerri town, Imo State, on the 21st to 24th September, 2013, as the Imo State Police Command Ambush Squad swooped on them.
According to a Press Release issued by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Musa Katsina through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Joy Ugo Elemoke, (DSP), these products which are brewed and produced are either fake or grossly substandard, produced in an unhygienic and unregulated environments are sold to unsuspecting people at the same rate as the original products which can cause a lot of health diseases to the consumers.
The suspects who indulge in the illicit act are; Mr Chibueze Ubah, male, 36 years old who hails from Umuobiagu, Isu LGA, Imo State, lives at No 10 Ibadan Street Aba, Abia State. He is a trader whose factory is located at Cemetery Market, Aba. Mr Kingsley Anayaoha, male, 30 years old, from Ideato South LGA, lives at No 93 Royce Road, Owerri, Imo State. He is a trader whose factory is sited at No 93 Royce Road Owerri. Mr Emeka Adigbonu, male, 37 years old, hails from Urualla, Ideato LGA, Imo State, lives at No 85 Royce Road, Owerri, Imo State. He is a trader whose industry is sited at No 85 Royce Road, Owerri. Mr Silas Awuruonye, male, 65 years old, from Umuobom Ideato South, LGA, Imo State, lives at No 93 Royce Road, Owerri, his industry is located at Royce Road, Owerri. Mr Paul Okechukwu, male, 35 years old, trader who hails from Umuoho Eziudo in Ezinihitte Mbaise, his factory is located at Cemetery road market, Aba/Umuoho Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA and Mr Chima Osuagwu, male, 31 years old who hails from Umuoho Eziudo in Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, Imo State, an Aluminum fabricator who lives at Umuoho Ezinihitte Mbaise.
Items recovered from the suspects are: one bag of empty bottles of Ultimate hot drinks, two cartons of empty bottles of Hennessy, two Drums of ethanol, one bag of empty cork cover, three bags of empty cartons of assorted injections, some empty cartons of Seaman’s Schnapps, twenty cartons of adulterated Eva Wine, four cartons of adulterated St-Remy, some cartons of adulterated Hunter hot drinks, some cartons of adulterated Seaman’s Schnapps, some empty cartons of Seaman, labels of assorted drinks, four bags of empty bleach, assorted liquid soap and body lotion containers and some assorted chemicals.
The Police Command however warned the general public to be mindful, wary of the places they buy their beverages and other food items, and should alert police quickly wherever they suspect foul play for prompt action.
According to the PPRO, investigations are still on to unravel the mystery behind the actions.
