Apart from troubles related to nonpayment of monthly salaries, alleged substitution of names of authentic beneficiaries with impostors is also said to be ravaging the programe introduced two years ago by the Owelle Rochas Okorocha government to reduce unemployment in Imo State.
In the heat of nonpayment of workers’ salaries, the Youth-Must-Work beneficiaries who are owed eight months salary arrears threatened to go on street protest to demand their pay. To avoid a backlash, Government authorities made hasty plans to pay two months salaries.
At the payment ground, authentic beneficiaries claimed they were short-changed as they failed to find their names. Few who did not want their names in print while wailing with tears claimed that their names were omitted while those who never appeared to be part of the exercise have taken over. There was a suspicion that fictitious names may have taken over the authentic names.
All effort made by our reporter to hear from the management staff concerning the issue proved abortive as the strike action could not allow them responded to our reporter on the issue.
