AMANAOGU COMMUNITY, ORSU LGA BOILS OVER JERRY ALAGBAOSO’S ASCENSION AS TRADITIONAL RULER

As the coordinated efforts of both the local, State and federal governments to restore peace in the crisis troubled Orsu local government area of Imo State seemed to have started yielding positive results, an issue that might ignite another crisis in the area is being hatched in Amanaogu community in the LGA, if urgent steps are not taken to stop Chief Jerry Alagbaosu from imposing himself as the Traditional Ruler of the community.

The aggrieved people on Thursday stormed their Orsu local government headquarters in Awo-Idemili and sounded it loud and clear to the council boss, Chief Friday Ibekaeme that they will “never tolerate it, as such is an abberation of justice”.

The aggrieved Amanaogu people, numbering over One Thousand people, made up of men, women and their youths, on a peaceful protest to the council headquarters on Thursday demanded for immediate reversal of the action, and allow them to choose their choice person for their traditional vacant Throne, in the interest of peace.

Some of their placards inscripted: “Justice must prevail in Amanaogu community; Our Tradition and Cultural Heritage should not be bastadized; Amanaogu will reject anything that will bring back war situation; Amanaogu Custom and Tradition not for sale; Amanaogu will Uphold her Cultural heritage at all cost; Amanaogu is known for peace, equity and justice”.

The people maintained that nothing short than justice will be allowed to prevail in their community.

Presenting their protest letter to the council boss, Chief Friday Ibekaeme, when he eventually came out from his office, the President of Amanaogu Autonomous Community, Ambassador Maduka Andrew Chukwuemeka who was represented by his vice, Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ezeani (Senior-Man) told the council boss that his community had in a Communique draft, roundly agreed and accepted and made available to stakeholders, within and outside the community, that the issue of replacement of their traditional ruler should hold on, until the replacement of their deceased KingMakers (Ndi-Ichie), and wondered why the council chairman, who he said was also given a copy of the Communique, should go to the house of Chief Jerry Alagbaosu to install him as their Eze, without recourse to the constitution of the community and without recourse to the letters of the Communique, and described it as abberation of justice and denial of the right of the people to choose who should rule them as their Eze.

” Chief Jerry Alagbaosu is very much aware that the community, by the resolution taken at the meeting of 7th August, 2026, rolled out a road map for the commencement of issues on the Ezeship of the community.

“The community directed all the villages with dead or incapacitated Ichies to replace them before 2027. Each of the villages was mandated to produce two Ichies. The period for the commencement of selection process of the new Eze was fixed for August 2027.

“It is therefore shocking to wake up on 16th of August to hear that Chief Jerry Alagbaosu, contrary to our custom and tradition, and without any regard for the Town Union, proceeded to assemble some very few elders of the community in his house, and one of the elders crowned him the Eze of our community, and issued him with a Staff of Office “.

In his response, the council boss, Chief Ibekaeme commended them for toing the path of peace, and reminded them that he was present during the Town Union elections and inauguration.

“I observed some issues in your constitution. I advised the new leaders to set up a Constitution Review Committee, and nothing yet has been done about it.

“A community decides how best to rule themselves, but I that constitution rules everything, both the community, local government, the state, and the entire country “.

When contacted, Chief Jerry Alagbaoso told TRUMPETA NEWSPAPER that those demonstrating at the Council Headquarter are ignorant of the rules and Laws that guide the community,adding that he flaunted no law as his ansencion as Traditional Ruler followed due process.

The former Law Maker directed TRUMPETA NEWSPAPER to the LGA Chairman whom he said is in possession of a Petition written by his people condemning the act of those demonstrating against his Ezeship Stool.

“They don’t know about the Law of the Community. They are ignorant and don’t know what they are doing. Go and meet the LGA Chairman and he will brief you more. My people have presented a Petition to the Council” Alagbaoso said.
