National Union Local Government Employees NULGE, Imo state Chapter has sent a 7 day warning to the Governor of Imo state of an impending strike should the government fail to meet their demands.
According to information available to ImoTrumpeta, NULGE arrived at this decision after their meetings with government to sort out their grievances ended in a deadlock.
The LG workers are demanding for their welfare which they alleged, has nose-dived since the inception of the present administration in the state.
The workers said their situation has worsened since the face-off between the Owelle Okorocha led state Government and the elected Council Chairmen deepened, as the workers are confused and frustrated with the whole scenario which places work a ethics in jeopardy, as they don’t know whose instruction to follow ; that of the DAGS, Transition Committee Chairmen or the Elected Chairmen.
Meanwhile, the workers said the main crux of the matter now is their welfare, which if not met, will see LGAs grounded as they prepare for any indefinite strike.
The workers are saying that the LGAs are getting inadequate allocations that can hardly suffice for salaries, thereby rendering the LGAs fallow.
They also complained of irregular salaries, non payment of fringe benefits like allowances, over-time, first 28days Transfer grants, and many more.
The seven day warning strike may commence tomorrow if nothing was done by Government, NULGE said.
