Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu has been impeached, sources tell Dockaysworld.
He was removed by the State House of Assembly during plenary on Monday.
The impeachment followed an investigation led by Justice S.A. Omonua (retired) and a seven-man panel into the impeachment petition against the former Deputy Governor.
According to the panel’s report, the accusation of perjury against Shaibu was not sufficiently substantiated by the complainant.
However, the allegation of disclosing government official documents was found to be substantiated.
During the plenary session, 18 out of the 20 present members voted in support of the panel’s report, while one member dissented.
The impeachment move is believed to be the latest development in the rift between Shaibu and his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
There had been an uneasy calm between the deputy governor and his principal since last year when Shaibu declared his interest to join this year’s Edo governorship race.
