AS SWAN MARKS HER 60TH ANNIVERSARY NATIONWIDE: IMO CHAPTER WORSHIPS AT MARIA ASSUMPTA CATHEDRAL, OWERRI

In continuation of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) nationwide, the Cosmos Chukwuemeka-led Imo State Chapter is not left out as members worshipped at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, last Sunday in commemoration of the week.

The State Sportswriters had left the Sports pitch and headed to the Church to thank God for thus far He had led them..

In his admonition, the Catholic Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, reminded the Christian faithful that thanksgiving is a usual norm adding that even the Israelites, towards the end of every year, usually have a harvest period during which they thanked God for a bountiful harvest being farmers.

The Metropolitan Bishop congratulated the Sports Journalists in the country for their diamond jubilee celebration and also commended them for the good work they are doing by keeping the populace up to speed with sporting activities in Nigeria and beyond.

According to him, “We need sports in order to be healthy. God created us to move our joints and so sports are parts of what we need to do to remain healthy as well as learn to win or lose without bitterness,”

Turning to the Politicians, the Metropolitan urged them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship during elections, stressing that politics should not be a “do-or-die affair”, as only one candidate would emerge victorious at a times while others should close ranks and prepare for the next election.

It would be recalled that the Imo State SWAN chapter being one of the most vibrant chapters in the country has two of her members, Comrades Theodore Tasie and Chris Abiaziem, as honorees at the forthcoming grand finale at Abuja
