Tourney Vow To Give Their Best
…Commends Okorocha on Grass Root Sports Development
Members of the Central Local Organizing Committee for the Community Government Council (CGC) Football Championship has vowed to give their best in other to achieve success with the tournament so dear to the heart of His Excellency Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha.
Part of the communiqué released after the meeting which took place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, stated that the competition apart from helping to unite the over 700 Communities in the state, will equally help to hunt, identify and expose hidden football talents that will in future become diamonds in sky.
The Committee also praised the Governor and the honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Comrade Kenneth Emelu, for their undying efforts to ensure that Imo youth is gainfully engaged and guided to become true future leaders.
The CGC football tournament was endorsed by Governor Okorocha and his Executive members with the view of uniting the Communities as well as reaching the rural areas with good governance.
Chairman of the Central LOC, Ndubuisi Opara who also is the YSFON Vice-Chairman South-East while addressing the press immediately after their inaugural meeting expressed joy and happiness over the confidence re-posed on him by the Commissioner promising his team can’t afford to fail the government now.
He however recalled how successful the Traders/Artisans Soccer Tournament which he chaired

…As Doctors, Lawyers Settle for Draw
Players of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Chapter on Wednesday December 4 at the Old Township Stadium defeated their counterparts from the Radio and Television, Theater Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) in a friendly football encounter.
The novelty encounter which is one of the activities lined up to mark this year’s NUJ week saw the pen pushers pip their Radio and TV counterparts by a lone goal that was scored mid-way into the first half of the match.
Addressing the players and the teaming members of the media associations, the State NUJ chairman who spoke through the Union Vice-Chairman, Mr Ihemadu thanked the players of both sides for honoring their call stating that with activities like this members of the two union will always be healthy.
He however said that the activities of the NUJ will continue as planned with a lecture at the press center and other programs.
Reacting after the trilling game that was watched by an appreciable crowd, Hon Casca Ohanele (Trumpeta news editor) who was returning to the game of football after a long time said that the victory has further emphasized the prowess of the pen pushers in disseminating information and playing good football adding that for the past four years NUJ has not lost a game.
In a related development, the resident Doctors in Owerri settled for a draw with their Lawyer friends at the Government Secondary School field as their encounter which is designed to foster unity and healthy professional doctors and lawyers ended 2 2 also on Wednesday December 4.

2013 CAF Awards: Mikel, Emenike still in race
Nigeria stars Mikel Obi and Emmanuel Emenike are still in the race for the 2013 CAF African footballer of the Year after the top 10 nominees were named on Thursday.
Other Nigeria stars in the Top 10 are goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa.
All four players were involved as Nigeria won a third Africa Cup of Nations in February and also helped the Super Eagles qualify for a fifth World Cup.
Cote d’Ivoire’s Yaya Toure, who won the prestigious award last year, is also still in contention as is his compatriot Didier Drogba.
Other players in the shortlist are Asamoah Gyan (Ghana), Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang (Gabon), Mohamed Aboutrika (Egypt), Jonathan Pitroipa (Burkina Faso).
The nominees for the best African Player based in Africa has also been cut to five.
They are Sunday Mba (Nigeria), Aboutrika, Ahmed Fathy (Egypt), Rainford Kalaba (Zambia) and Treso Mputu Mabi (DR Congo).
Aboutrika won last year’s version of this award.
The CAF Awards will be staged in Lagos, Nigeria, on January 9, 2014
