The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has described as a youth organization that is legally recognized by the federal government for youths and not a political party.
This was made known by the national vice chairman South-East Comrade Samuel Morah, on Monday in Owerri, Imo State capital while reacting to some activities of a faction of the NYCN, in the state.
Comrade Morah stated that the only recognized national leadership of NYCN is the one led by Comrade Henry Nwabueze calling on the general public to desist from transacting any form of business with any person who parades himself as the national chairman is doing so at his or her detriment. He noted that there is a court order restraining Dr Yakubu Shandam and Hon. Mbanusi Emma to stop parading themselves as National Chairman and Vice Chairman, South-East respectively. He also noted that since the leadership of Comrade Nwabueze have respect and regard for the rule of law, it will not hesitate to petition the inspector general of police and other appropriate security agencies for proper legal redress.
Meanwhile, the Imo State chairman of the NYCN, Comrade Izdo Chukwuemeka noted that paragraph 6 of the court ruling which he read out as follows “In exercise of the courts disciplinary jurisdiction preserved under section 287/3 of the 1999 constitution and to give effect to the principal order made above, the inspector general of police or any police officer acting for him in any part of the federation is hereby ordered to remove any person occupying any of the elective offices of national Youth Council of Nigeria forthwith”
He further noted that based on the judgement of the federal high court, the leadership of Comrade Nwabueze is relying on the security agencies to enforce the judgement. He also pointed out that Comrade Henry Nwabueze and his team will not take laws into their hands and so the need for due process which is the court.
Comrade Chukwuemeka who noted that the Goodluck Jonathan administration has always encouraged the rule of law and that anybody who does not obey the rule of law is taking the judiciary for granted and should be charged for contempt of court.
He frowned at the activates of some people in some quarters who he said organized a summit in Owerri the Imo State capital with the name of the council and warned them to desist from it or leave them with no other option than to call them to order true the legal means.
He regretted that some individuals use car number plates of the council even when they are not authorized and by so doing, hide under it to commit all sorts of crime which ridicules the integrity of the body and further called on the federal road safety corps and other relevant agencies to ensure that those using this number plates are those authorized by the Henry Nwabueze national leadership while the defaulters are brought to book.
He advised the youth to take their destiny in their hands and not rely on the government for non-existing white collar job.
