The Oganihu Owerre Club of Nigeria (OOCN) has reaffirmed its determination to restore its dignity and reclaim the pride of Ndi Owerre in Imo State.
In a communiqué signed by Dr Sam Onyekuru and Mr Obibi Roland, President and Secretary respectively and two others, and made available to Trumpeta, after a retreat held in Enugu, the Oganihu Owerre stated that it is finding ways of reviving the Radio programme, “Owerri Gbakomanu” which promotes the culture and tradition of Ndi Owerre. It noted that the club recognizes the role bongo music and musicians play in the unity and socio-economic development of Nigeria and South-East in particular and noted that it is going to organize an annual bongo music festival.
The communiqué also pointed out that the OOCN had resolved as follows “that the Oganihu Owerre Club of Nigeria did not adopt any governorship aspirant, but vowed to support any political party that produces a candidate from Owerri extraction, that the club regrettably noted that Owerri Zone in general and Owerri Federal Constituency in particular have not had a fair share in the governorship slot in Imo State and urged all sons and daughters from Owerri Federal Constituency to pursue the governorship ticket of their various political parties vigorously, that the Imo Charter of Equity which ensured the zoning of political offices in Imo State should be sustained. It further noted that Ndi Owerre should insist on the 60% employment quota of junior staff for indigenes in all the state and federal Institutions located in Owerri federal constituency.
The OOCN condemned the recent visit by some people from Owerri Federal Constituency to His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, where they urged him to take a shot at second term against his earlier commitment to a single tenure in office and called on the Governor to see those people as his personal enemies as well as enemies of the state, who are out to line their pockets and diminish His Excellency’s political profile.
