A Sports enthusiast, Honourable Ezenna Canice Okoro, the Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Managing Director of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, ISOPADEC, Prince Henry Uzor Okafor, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CAJECO Nigeria Limited and the Sole founder of Obanta Football Club, Awa Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State, was on 28th December 2013, at Grasshoppers International Stadium, Owerri distinguished with “Legend” award by Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Imo State Chapter.
In an address, the chairman of SWAN, Imo State branch, Mr John Nwogu, said the award on Mr. Ezenna Okoro was hinged on his selfless, immense contribution to the development and promotion of sports in Imo State, noting that the ward was based on merit. He urged the awardees to often assist in the improvement of sports in the state as nations unite, and develop through sports.
Earlier, the chairman of the event, Hon. Samuel Anyanwu, Member Representing Ikeduru State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, while commending SWAN for their efforts in promoting and solidifying sports in the country, encouraged the distinguished to always exhibit sportsman spirit to keep fit.
While appreciating SWAN for the honour done to him, Mr Ezenna Okoro, told Imo state government as well as well meaning people to help discover hidden talents who are languishing in the rural areas due to lack of sponsorship and help them grow in sports to enhance sporting activities in the country, maintaining that “when youths are properly empowered through sports they would assist develop the society as peace, security and prosperity will become the order of the day.
