Cheating, Acrimony Not The
Spirit Of Sports _SPC Rector
…Calls for Support to Enhance the School Facilities
The act of cheating and acrimony by sports men and women during sporting events have been totally condemned and described as not in line with the spirit of sports.
The call was made by the Rector of St Clever Seminary, Okpala, Rev FrDr Joseph Enyiaka, during the closing ceremony of the schools 2014 Inter-House Sports Competition which took place at the schools mini-stadium on Saturday February 15.
In an address presented during the event, FrEnyiaka noted that as a seminary school, they must demonstrate to the outside world that sports are meant to teach us spirit of comradeship and solidarity stressing that it is not a spring board for cheating and acrimony.
While welcoming the guests on behalf of the Local Ordinary-His Grace Most Rev Dr AJV Obinna to the epoch making inter-house sports competition and fund raising, he maintained that all work and no playmakes Jack a dull boy adding that only last year they gathered to celebrate the Science Week and now the sporting activity showing that a healthy mind is a healthy body.
The event came later came to its climax with presentation of prizes to victorious teams raging from Relay Race, High Jump, Badminton, Match Past, Football among many others.
Meanwhile, the Rector in another development called on the guests and the public to come to their aid in the enhancement of the seminary facilities such as; helping in the building of a new Fathers house, providing some infrastructures to enhance academics, putting back in good condition the school computer lab and finally providing tables and seats in the refectory.
He however thanked the Archbishop for his love on the seminary stating that without him the little sum seminarians pay as accommodation and school fees wouldn’t have gone anywhere.The League management Company (LMC) has announced March 7 as the new kick-off date for the Glo Premier League.

LMC sets new League kick-off date
The decision of the LMC to postpone the commencement of the League was necessitated by the challenges being faced by the clubs in relation to funding and validation of documentations necessary to carry out the mandatory registration exercise.
“We have agreed to accommodate this popular request to extend the registration process period to enable the Clubs tidy up their documents for certification,” LMC chairman NdukaIrabor revealed.
He informed that the LMC after a meeting in Abuja decided on a two weeks extension of the kick-off date as a result of the peculiar nature of funds release by government, their principal sponsors and the observations made by LMC Stadium inspection teams. Irabor declared that after this grace period, only the clubs that meet the minimum requirements will be allowed to participate in the league.
“We have considered reports of the stadium facilities inspection teams and the need to allow the Clubs two weeks period to correct observed deficiencies in their facilities, hence the League earlier scheduled to start on February 21-23 will now start on the weekend of March 7 through to March 10.
“There will be no further extension after this period and the League will start with only Clubs that meet the minimum requirements”, he insisted.

Obulimba Unity Cup Kicks-off
The 2014 edition of the Obulimba Owerri-West Unity Cup Football Competition tagged Champions of Champions Unity Cup kicked-off on Saturday February 15 at the Police Training School field along Nekede/Ihiagwa road.
The championship which is in its third edition has according the donor and sponsor of the yearly tournament Hon Innocent Obulimba Eke, member representing Owerri-West State constituency at the State House of Assembly transformed the lives of many youths in the LGA namely Chidiebere Nwakali and Kelechi Iheanacho who both participated in the past two editions of the competition.
Hon Obulimba further averred that many other players like the highest goal scorer of last year’s tournament from Irete Emeka Okenwa (defending Champions) will soon be traveling to Azerbaijan to further his playing carrier professionally while Elvis Ofor (Obinze), Emeka Ogbonna (Obinze) and Michael ‘White’ Joseph are already in Portugal, Parma Fc and Heartland fc, Owerri respectively.
He continued by maintaining that the competition is one of the numerous programs designed to help empower the youths in Owerri-West LGA adding that the Rescue Mission Government of His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorochahas done so much in improving the life of imolites urging his people to continue supporting the performing Governor in other to sustain the real dividends of democracy.
Meanwhile, the Local Organizing Committee of the tournament is working closely according to Hon Obulimba with Talent Hunt proprietor, Obinze born Prince Ogbonna Alumi (South-East YSFON Ambassador) to help the sported talents from the competition progress in their professional careers in Italy.

Heartland Fc Players To Earn N.6m Monthly
Heartland players are in for a good change of fortune’s going by the declarations of the state government through its sports ministry.
The Imo state Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Comrade Kenneth Emelu, in a statement during a courtesy call by the members of Grass-root Movement for Good Governance (GMGG), stated that the Ministry has changed the landscape of Heartland F.C, as players will now earn up to N.6m monthly.
Comrade Emelu noted that his administration introduced the abolishment the payment of sign-on fees to players, and instead fused it all into their salaries, a solution which he said is being adopted by the League Management Company (LMC).
He pointed-out that the problems faced in the Nigerian Football Association is sign-on fees which he said has been resolved borrowing from his Ministry ideology, he added that the welfare of Heartland F.C players were also improved on with morale support before they go onto the pitch to play.
Speaking to newsmen, comrade Kenneth Emelu noted that in less than 3months of his appointment as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, he broke the 18years jinks of trouphyless club, as he had bagged 5 trophies in all, an achievement which he said was earned through passion and commitment.
