Cup Returns in Style
.As CGC Tourney Gets Closing Date
The second edition of the annual Artisans/Traders Football Competition which recorded remarkable impacts during its maiden edition last year will soon kick-off in style.
Reports reaching Trumpeta sports desk indicates that preparations has reached advanced stage for the commencement of the championship organized by Ministry of Youth and Sports in conjunction with Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) that is so dear to His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
According to the LOC chairman, Ndubuisi Opara, several association heads of artisans and traders have been invited for this year’s accreditations/registration seminar on Wednesday March 9 at the Grasshoppers International Stadium, Owerri by 10am.
Opara, an ex-international who also is a beneficiary of the old traders cup in the early 90’s stated that this year’s edition will surpass that of last year as his committee has been charged by the commissioner to ensure a successful and blissful event with the winner going home with a hummer bus.
Tyre dealers association emerged winners in last year’s edition after beating the Okada riders of Oguta 2 0 in the final at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Meanwhile, in a related development the Community Government Council (CGC) soccer tourney for all the 607 communities in the state has been slated to end on May 29.
Information has it that the LOC which is also headed by Sunny Opara has drawn up a program that will see the championship which is on-going at various LGA’s end on May 29 alongside the Artisans/Traders cup adding that some LGA’s have since concluded their qualifying games and that soon they will be drawn against each other in a format that will produce the finalists thanking the Governor and the commissioner for all their support towards developing the youths of Imo.

The 2014 Federation Cup Competition officially kicked-off across the federation on Saturday March 5, but in Imo actions begins today Tuesday March 8 as Elephant Fc, one of the longest surviving clubs returns to the FA cup games after about 8 years of absence.
Apart from Spartans (Heartland) Fc, Elephant Fc formed in 1985 remains the oldest club still waxing strong an taking part in major championships and after about 8 years absence in the FA cup, they will be making a sensational return on Wednesday when they take on Bally Fc at the Nworieubi sports stadium, Mbaitoli LGA headquarters.
Speaking to Trumpeta sports head, the club executive chairman, Mr Uchenna Osuagwu (Zico) said his boys are ready for their first game in the competition known for unearthing young talents adding that the exco members of the club are willing to provide every motivating factor for them to go far.
He however regretted the manner they were eliminated in their last outing via walk-over due to in-experience maintaining that this time the team is more matured to go far in the competition.
Meanwhile, the first game of the 2014 Imo FA cup games will take place today at the Iho Township Stadium, Ikeduru as Okara Fc trades tackle with Royal Force Fc today March 8 by 4pm.
Other games on Wednesday March 9 will see Amacuf Fc take on Location Fc also at the Iho Stadium same time while Obulimba Fc squares up against Global Stars Fc at the Chioma Ajunwa Stadium in Ahiazu-Mbaise by 4pm.

Obiyo Cup Rounds-Up Group Games
The Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) organized Samuel-Mary and Dame Emily Obiyo Foundation Football Competition will on Thursday March 10 round-up its group games with the outstanding tie between Ahiazu and Municipal Council at the Iho Township Stadium, Ikeduru.
The championship which kicked-off in March and powered by Sameul-Mary and Dame Emily Obiyo Foundation in conjunction with Mtn, Artel and Dr Samuel Obiyo for all the 9 Local Government Areas in Owerri Senatorial zone to help identify and expose young footballing talents who will later become diamonds in the sky.
According to the Local Organizing Committee Chairman, Sunny N Opara (South-East YSFON vice-President), the competitions group games originally ended with the last game in group A between Ikeduru and Mbaitoli last week but the first game in group B couldn’t hold originally and so will come up on Thursday as it will determine the winner of that group.
Sunny who also doubles as the Imo FA technical chairman maintained that Owerri-West and Mbaitoli have both advanced to the semis while the winner in Thursday’s game plus the competitions best looser will also join them for the double cracker.
He however praised the efforts of the brain behind these successful story, Chief Uzoma who has immortalized the name of his Late Mother, Dame Emily Obiyo by continuing with the legacy of her life style in giving back to the society especially the indigent citizens saying that apart from the football tourney, a Tennis Championship and a Secondary School Quiz is also on-going at designated centers while his health for all program has been giving out free medical eye treatment to people in the 9 LGA’s.
