Imo Lawmakers Investigate Fraud Allegations in Pensions Board

In its move to bring sanity and financial prudence in Imo, the State House of Assembly have passed a motion to investigate the alarm raised about the possibility of fraud going on at the Local Government Service Commission Pension Board . Following reports extended to Trumpeta, by a group called concerned Imo citizens, the Owerri based medium on Tuesday raised alarm of plan to embezzle pension fund in the state.
Presenting the matter before the House, Hon Bar Simeon Iwunze member representing Isiala Mbano in the State House of Assembly urged his collogues to look into it and find out the substance in the allegation carried by the newspaper.
The Deputy Speaker, Pherm. Donatus Ozoemena who presided over the House in the absent of the Speaker, Rt Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, directed the special committee to go for holistic investigation and submit their report or findings on the 28th of May 2014.
Other House members who spoke on the issue said the truth of the matter must be known to protect the allowances of retired workers.
“Money meant for retirees cannot be siphoned by unknown persons. It is good for the House members to step into the activities of pension board and flush out the bad eggs in that place” the members chorused before adopting the resolution.
When contacted, the state chairman of Imo State Local Government Service Commission Mr Anthony Nworgu since his views were not sought earlier applauded the House for taking a bold step to verify the truth.
Some pensioners who spoke to our reporter also gave kudos to the house of Assembly for coming to their rescue.
