A former Governorship candidate in Imo State and one time member of the House of Representatives, (names withheld) has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC, for duping a Business man of funds running into millions of Naira.
The Business man cum politician who took refuge in his village, Amaike Mbieri, in Mbaitoli LGA to evade the security personnel was said to have been shocked when he learnt that his pursuers had trailed him to his ancestral home and escaped by scaling the fence of the building, and headed to his Owerri residence, only to encounter another set of security operatives, and has since gone underground.
The EFCC in a publication in one of the National Dailes of Tuesday may 5, 2015 edition declared the former Lawmaker wanted. In the publication EFCC said that he is “wanted in a case of criminal breach of trust and obtaining the sum of N10, 500,000 (Ten million, five hundred thousand naira only) under pretence”.
The crime Body went on to say that he “speaks Igbo and English language fluently. His last known address is No. 54 Dennis Osadebe Street, Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja”.
However, many of Imo citizens, who saw the picture of the former Lawmaker on the EFCC wanted list were surprised and disappointed because the politician lately added.
“Evangelist” to his name, calming that he is now a man of God, out winning Souls and urged many who came across him to repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand.
It therefore baffled many Imolites who are finding it difficult to situate his present predicament in the hands of EFCC and Christianity, which has led many people to believe that he was just posturing and looking for whom to trap.
This same fellow escaped lynching from mob attack during the hay days of “Otokoto riot” as he was accused as one of those who made life miserable for innocent citizens.
He however escaped and surfaced to win election as a member of House of Representatives in 1999, which many said he used to polish his smeared image.
He tried to be a Governor in 2011 election but failed. By this time many had thought he has changed, but the latest encounter with EFCC proves the saying that Leopard cannot change its spots.
