It was a sorry sight at a first class hospitality industry in Owerri, the All Seasons Hotel, Owerri, when court bailiffs from the High Court, Owerri including policemen invaded the complex to cart away property of the hotel.
In compliance to a court judgement obtained by an erstwhile manager of the hotel, (names withheld) bordering on huge sum of money the hotel owed him, various types of property were carted away from the premises in the full glare of guests and workers.
Trumpeta reporter who covered the event noted that the aggrieved former manager had lost in a lower court before going to appeal to get favourable judgement before executing the order of the court.
On reaching the All Season Hotels premises, the bailiffs began to impound available items within reach unchallenged. The action raised concern among guests who hurriedly left the hotel premises to avoid further embarrassment. Attempts to speak with the staff or management personnel were fruitless as no one was ready to speak on the matter.
Meanwhile, the proprietor of the Hotel, Evangelist Mike Ikoku when contacted said the action was a “jankara” judgement noting that he was never served court notice for the hearing neither was his establishment given any notice of such.
He however explained that some time ago, one of his staff in All Seasons Hotel did something wrong and was duly served a dismissal order but that the person challenged the action in the law court and was defeated.
Ikoku further stated that it was however surprising to him and the hotel staff when some people from the court suddenly came to cart away some of his belongings pointing out that as a law abiding citizen he allowed them to exercise the court order. The Nkwere born business mogul informed that they will challenge the action at the Appeal Court claiming that he does not understand the rationale behind the “Jankara” arrangement between his former employee and the court that led to his establishment nor himself not served with a hearing notice before acting the way they did.
