Tension in Imo Community Over Killing of Corp Member By Naval Officer

Egbelu Community, Awaka in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo state is witnessing uneasy calm and uncertainty over troubles trailing the gruesome murder of a youth Corp member, Amadi Chukwuemeka Princewill from the community.

Tension has gripped the suburban community with spate of demonstrations which led to demolition of houses following the careless death of the indigene of the community who was undergoing his mandatory one year service in Benue State.

Trumpeta learnt that his death which was caused by a trigger happy naval officer over the weekend, arose from unsettled issues over leadership in the community.

Our reporter was reliably informed that, this same issue which was brought to the notice of the Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Paschal Nnadi who hails from the area had subsequently fixed the case for hearing on the 29th of May, 2019.

The naval officer it was gathered was invited by one Nick Anyanwu who was the former chairman and contesting again. In a bid to explain what happened, the officers started harassing some of them.

According to reports, the late Amadi Chukwuemeka Princewill popularly known as Sleek on seeing the uniformed men, tried to leave the scene but was shouted down by the officer who thought he was walking out on them and in the process, beat him mercilessly and fired a bullet straight to his chest which led to his untimely death.

The officer in a bid cover up his tracks, took him to the nearly Holy Rosary Hospital Emekuku, where he subsequently dumped Chukwuemeka to his fate and escaped.

Emerging reports revealed that, the road blocks mounted along the Awaka/Mbaise/Umuahia road by the naval officers have since been removed by the angry youths who also took back the quarters given to the officers, while the house and property of Nick Anyanwu have since been razed down by fire set by angry Mob.

Unfortunately, parents of the deceased have not had it easy since the ugly incident over the weekend, as the mother has been hospitalized prior to the event, due to motor accident which damaged her legs.

There has been calls by motorists and residents of the area to government and relevant security stakeholders before now, urging for the removal of the Road blocks mounted by security personnel in the area, due to their extortions and high handedness towards Innocent citizens.
