There are strong indications that the Chief Justice of the federation, Chief Justice Mohamad Tanko may finally excuse himself from handling the review case, the PDP candidate in the 2019 Governorship election, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha instituted.
Before the matter came up on Tuesday, the National secretariat of the party had written a strong petition to the Supreme Court asking for the exclusion of the CJN, who was accused of bias.
The PDP who had expressed displeasure over the outcome of the first Supreme Court judgment which sacked their candidate for the APC flagbearer, Senator Hope Uzodinma where the CJN was in charge wrote to seek his exclusion from the jurist’s team.
In the letter signed by Prince Uche Secondus, the National Chairman and National Secretary Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri based their argument on the basis that the earlier judgment has generated enough controversy that wouldn’t warrant their return to hear the case.
Trumpeta learnt that having gone through the PDP complaints Tanko may excuse himself and allow others to avoid further accusations of bias leveled against him.
It was also learnt that there is pressure against his person as a member of the new 7 man team constituted to hear the review case.
Though, the PDP asked for more time but it was not clearer if the time frame would be the chance for Tanko to excuse himself from the review case.
