As the first half of the 2020/21 NPFL season draws to an end, players of Heartland FC, Owerri have returned back to strike action in protest for their unpaid salary.
Recall that the players last Friday after some persuasions from the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Paul Emeziem, Ex Super Eagles Player, Emmanuel Emenike and Cubana CEO among others, the players who we learnt are being owed about 4 months salary plus some of the players and technical crew who are owed about 5 months arrears downed tools to demand for their entitlements.
The authorities who quickly mobilized the payment of about 6 players that got alerts on their phones before their departure to Kaduna where they lost to Kano Pillars 2-1 in match day 18 of the NPFL, reports has it that since last Friday no other players or management member and the technical crew have received any other alert, a situation some of the players and fans of the club termed as fraudulent and deceptive.
Trumpeta equally gathered that the authorities earlier assured them that as soon as they submit their bank details and other issues are sorted out that they will start getting alerts but surprisingly, some of the players who joined early this season are yet to get a dime and this means that the players have been playing on an empty stomach.
The team who came out to the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Tuesday for their usual training session ahead of their game against Adamawa United on Sunday refused to train on sighting the SportS Commissioner, Hon Dan Ogu apparently sensing that he had no good news for them.
As at the time of filing this report yesterday afternoon, Trumpeta sports desk can report that the players have refused to train until they are paid their salaries.
Heartland FC will be host to Adamawa United on Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri in one of the match day 19 of the NPFL games.
