Piqued by the need to enhance the education standard in Imo state, the 1994 set of Holy Ghost College, Owerri, Imo State over the weekend donated an ultra modern lavatory, containing 7 bathrooms and 5 toilets to their alma-mater during their 2021 national re-union.
The donation which was followed by a commissioning ceremony at the school premises witnessed the convergence of clergies and stakeholders from within and outside the shores of the state.
Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of 1994 set, of the great citadel of learning which has stood the taste of time, Arch Nnaji Chukwunonso Benedict (mnia) a chartered member of Nigerian Institute of Architectures, told Newsmen that the zeal to build a befitting ultra modern facility for their alma-mater was borne out of necessity, he said citing the project is a brainchild, of the projects he had in mind when he was inaugurated to lead the 1994 set.
Architect Nnaji maintained that when he assumed the position, he visited the school principal, who spoke extensively on the plights of the students, he said “I was inaugurated to lead 1994 set, and uplift our alma-mater, I visited the school, spoke with the Principal, he said they have over 200 students, but no lavatory, I went back to my set, as an architect I went back to the drawing board, we started the lavatory building project with 7 bathrooms and 5 toilets in 2019 which was delayed by the COVID 19 pandemic and was completed this year 2021. It took us about N4.5 million naira to complete the project” he submitted.
Architect Nnaji said, the 1994 set has member strength of 102 and about 45 active members he said the set also donated toiletries, he also recalled past effort of the 1994 set where Students and Teachers were encouraged with little gifts and tokens, he also revealed the intent of the 1994 set to provide a functioning website for the students of Holy Ghost College, so that they can access results and other vital information.
The vibrant former House of Assembly Aspirant who contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 election, Architect Nnaji seized the platform to call on the students to make effective use of the facilities. Speaking on the current security situation, he called on the appropriate authority to take charge, do the needful, and curtail the use of military by using other paramilitary outfits to stop the shedding of more blood.
