AsImoStatewas celebrating a relatively crime-free Christmas and New Year holidays, kidnappers shattered the peace of Agbala Community in Owerri North LGA, as they carted away Chief Malachy Okechukwu Onu.

Information available to Imo Trumpeta said that the kidnappers numbering about four struck at 8pm on Saturday January 5th at Egbelu Agbala, where Malachy and a few friends were drinking in a local Drinking Palour, in the spirit of the celebration period.

It was learnt that when the kidnappers, who operated in a car, sighted their prey, they shot into the air to scare away every body, but as Malachy made move to scamper away, they grabbed him as he started struggling with them, but since help dud not come in time, the Hoodlums over powered, and whisked him away in their vehicle.

But minutes after Malachy was abducted, the Agbala Vigilante and Youths from the area mobilized but it was too late, as Chief Onu’s abductors had gone far beyond the youths.

When Imo Trumpeta visited Egbula Agbala yesterday, the entire community was gloomy as sources said Chief Malachy Onu is loved by his people because of his philanthropic nature.

Imo Trumpeta was told that the community and relations of Chief Onu are doing every thing possible to free him from his captors.

It was learnt that the kidnappers had made contacts with Onu’s family as he spoke to them himself, even as the kidnappers are demanding the sum of N20m (Twenty Million Naira).

Chief Onu is said to be a young business man, who minds his business, and it was learnt that the Regent of Agbala Community has summoned a meeting of the Cabinet Chiefs to deliberate on the incident, which many of those who spoke to Imo Trumpeta said was strange to Agbala Community which lives in peace with one another, including tenants.

It is not yet known what led to the kidnap of Chief Onu, whether it is politically motivated, or simply the usual abduction for money.

However, it is left for the police to unravel the motive, as sources said security operatives have since swung into action to free Chief Malachy Onu.
