FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROMISES TO RECRUIT YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FOR UN JOBS

The Federal Government has promised to create jobs for unemployed young professionals through an arrangement with United Nations Programme (UNDP).

 

This was contained in President Goodluck Jonathan’s speech at the Passing-Out Ceremony of the 2012 Batch ‘C’ youth corps members recently held across the nation.

 

Part of the speech read to the out-going corps members who served in Imo State by the Imo State Deputy Governor, Sir Jude Agbaso who represented Governor Rochas Okorocha at the Passing-Out ceremony at Dan Anyiam Stadium, reads thus:

 

‘…commencing this year, the Federal Government, under an arrangement with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will recruit young professionals that will work on various parts of the world. This will expose our youths and make them serve as Nigerian Ambassadors not only in the International Civil Service, but also in many other respects’.

 

Further, Mr. President remarked that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Programme had over the years contributed to national integration, unity and development of the country.

 

He commended the out-going corps members for contributing to the development of their host communities during their primary assignments and enjoined them to use the various experiences they garnered during the service year including the skill acquisition training they received while serving the nation to become self-employed.

 

Speaking earlier, the Imo State Coordinator of NYSC Mrs. Chinwe Ojukwu said that some corps members performed very well during their service period and needed to be rewarded. She however, promised that the corps would punish corps members who were not serious with the programme.

 

While thanking the brilliant performance of the corps members in the state the Chairman of the Imo State NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Comrade Kenneth Emelu in his remark at the event, commended specially the contribution of medical personnel among the corps members whom he said carried out free medical outreach in some selected communities in the state.

 

The occasion feature different matching parades by the corps members.
