Physically Challenged persons in Imo State yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon blocked the Gate to Government House entrance Owerri to demand for what they termed their welfare.
The Physically Challenged persons who were more than hundred started their movement from the Imo International Conference Center IICC Owerri, where they first gathered before marching to Government House to see Governor Hope Uzodimma.
They Disabled people were however stopped at the entrance gate where they asked to presented their demand to the Government Officials.
Addressing the press Dr Stanley Nwachukwu, leader of the Group demanded for more quota for employment adding that 70% of the Physically Challenged persons in the State are unemployed. Yet qualified with various University degrees
He also demanded for increase in their Subvention. Further more Dr Nwachukwu submitted that the few of the disabled people employed at the LGA levels were supposed to be permented adding that the disabled people are suffering much in the State due to abandonment by Government. He therefore call on Governor Hope Uzodimma to consider it necessary as a matter of urgency to come to their rescue before they starve to death.
He however thanked the Governor for giving two of their members executive appointment “We don’t have subvention since nine years now but this year Governor Hope Uzodimma approved big sum of money as subvention to us. We haven’t received the money till now”. Continuing he thanked the Governor also for his open door policy and promised that they will reciprocate to his good gestures.
