Death of Two in Owerri; ENTRACO Official In Police Net, May Face Murder Charge
…As Govt Agency Condemns Fatal Accident, Warns Road Users To Obey Traffic Rules
Officials of the Nigeria Police have in their custody personnel of ENTRACO involved in the recent accident that claimed two lives in Owerri, Imo State.
Reports reaching Trumpeta have it that the suspect who while accosting a vehicle owner who drove against traffic resulting to an accident, may be charged for murder.
This comes following the handover of the suspect to police in Owerri.
ENTRACO made the handover to police known in a statement which reads;
The Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) expresses profound sorrow and regret over the tragic accident that occurred earlier today, 10th November 2025, in Owerri, Imo State, involving one of our personnel and a motorbike rider with his passenger.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the incident occurred when an ENTRACO personnel impounded a Ford Edge (SEL) vehicle for obstructing traffic around Relief Junction, Egbu Road, Owerri. While the vehicle was being relocated, it reportedly collided with a motorbike that was plying one-way around St. Mulumba Junction, Wethral Road by Akachi. Regrettably, one life was lost, and another victim is currently receiving medical attention.
We strongly condemn this unfortunate and avoidable incident, which has left the ENTRACO family in mourning. Our sincerest condolences go to the bereaved family, and our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victim for a swift and full recovery.
We assure the public that the ENTRACO staff involved has been handed over to the Nigerian Police for a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. We are committed to cooperating fully with the authorities to ensure transparency and justice.
ENTRACO reiterates its warning against the use of motorbikes within Owerri Municipality, as the ban on motorbikes remains in force. This policy, instituted by the Imo State Government, aims to prevent such tragedies and maintain law and order within the city. Driving one-way or using motorbikes on restricted routes is hazardous, unlawful, and life-threatening.
We appeal to all Owerri residents to obey traffic rules, avoid one-way driving, and refrain from operating motorbikes within the municipal area. Road safety is a collective responsibility, and compliance with regulations will help safeguard lives and prevent future occurrences.
