Umuakagu/Umulolo Elders dismiss allegation of compensation for Uhu-elu land, reafirm Akujuobi Nze as chairman

Umuakagu/Umulolo Elders dismiss allegation of compensation for Uhu-elu land, reafirm Akujuobi Nze as chairman.

Contrary to a publication on Watchdog newspaper dated 25 November 2025, accusing the chairman of Umuakagu/Umulolo, Mr Akujuobi Nze and some Elders of Umuakagu/Umulolo kindred of collecting six million naira compensation for Uhu-elu land, some Elders of the village have described the allegation as baseless and unsubstantiated. Some Elders who spoke to our Correspondent said the sponsored publication was a baseless allegation by some disgruntled individuals aimed at instigating crisis in the community.

Reacting to the publication, the second eldest person in Umuezuo community, Obilobi Boniface Obihara disputed the allegation saying that neither the chairman of Umuakagu/Lolo Mr Akujuobi Nze nor any elder of the kindred recieved any compensation from any body or group. ” I wish to state that Mr Akujuobi Nze is the Chairman of Umuakagu/Lolo kindred. Neither him nor any elder from the kindred received any compensatory payment from anybody for Uhuelu land. We are surprised that some criminal elements in our community have remained resolute in deceiving the public with their fabricated lies over the Uhu-elu land. These were the same individuals who were busy negotiating for compensatory payment from the government over the Uhuelu land. In 2017, these people with their cohorts requested to be paid for compensation for the land without Umulolo. They hired a special attorney for this purpose even without involving umulolo kindred and some other families of Umuakagu.

Also, speaking, Mr Dan Ohahuna said that Uhuelu land had been acquired by the Imo state government and designated as Plot 30 Naze industrial layout. In 2017, the same individuals went to Bureau of Lands to negotiate for compensation without Umulolo kindred, who have the major portion of the land and some people from umuakagu. Several correspondences were written to the Ministry of Lands relating to negotations for compensatory payment for the land even without the owners of the major portion of the land, Umulolo and some parts of umuakagu”.

According to report, the major portion of the said land belongs to Umulolo kindred.

Recently, when the state government decided to develop the land through the Ministry of Industries, mines and Solid Minerals , they contacted the umuakagu/Umulolo kindred and did the necessary traditional rites.

However, these same individuals who in 2017 negotiated for compensation of the same land from Ministry of lands without Umulolo kindred have turned back today to fight the state government from developing the land because they have sold some major portions of the land to private individuals.

“We can not resist the state government from developing a land that was duly acquired by the government,” declared one of the elders of the village.

Many prominent leaders of the village have condemned the action of the sponsors of the false newspaper publication, warning that such allegation shall not be condoned anymore. They added that there is no lingering problem relating to the ongoing development of Uhu-elu land by the government , rather that some individuals who are envious of the gaint stride and numerous achievements recorded by Mr Akujuobi Nze since his assumption of office as the chairman of Umuakagu/Umulolo kindred are the ones sponsoring the fabricated lies on the pages of newspaper with ill motive of discrediting his effort and outstanding performance in office. They added that they were surprised that the same individuals who had been in the leadership saddle of Umuakagu/Umulolo for many years without any accountability , could shamelessly accuse the chairman and Elders of the kindred of collecting six million naira compensation .
