ThebCommissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary), Imo State, Prof. BTA Ikeagwuoha last week at Teachers’ House located along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, held a crucial meeting with Principals of Public Secondary Schools in Imo State.

During the meeting, Commissioner Ikeagwuoha introduced the New Executive Secretary, Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB) Mrs. Theresa Okwu to the Principals and advised them to work harmoniously with her. Prof. Ikeagwuoha who was poetic and dramatic during his speech made it clear that things are going to change for good. He insisted that the era of rancour, acrimony, misbehavior, lazier affair attitude and truancy have gone, adding that no Civil Servant will abuse a Commissioner again and get away with it.

In his words “I have never asked you to give me money before”

“I always advice you to do the right thing and stay away from trouble” Commissioner Ikeagwuoha submitted.

Speaking further, he urged the Secondary School Principals to reciprocate the good gestures of Governor Hope Uzodinma by coming to work early and avoid any form of corruption.

He however, regretted why some School Principals are extorting money from students in the name of WAEC Registration.

He revealed that Government gave approval of N31,5000 for WAEC 2025 registration, but some dubious Principals collected above that. He explained that it is a fraudulent act for a Principal to register WAEC students with N38,000 instead of N31,500 as directed.

He also frowned at a Principal who was alleged to be operating in two Schools at the same time.

Ikeagwuoha further raised eyebrow on Principal from Awo-Ommamma Secondary School who was alleged to have collected N59,000 for each of the registration of 100 students for WAEC Examination. The Commissioner condemned in totality the corrupt practices going on in Ikenegbu Secondary School, City Secondary School, Egbu Comprehensive and other Schools in the Owerri Municipality.

Ikeagwuoha told the Principals that he has come to transform the system and not to destroy it.

He disclosed that many Principals that were untimely retired years back can now rejoice as their names have been returned to the pay roll adding that 15 of them started receiving salaries again since December, 2025.

Ikeagwuoha announced that any Principal who collect money without approval will be demoted.

“You must account for any money collected during the WAEC registration”, Commissioner told the Principals.

In conclusion, he urged the Principals to shun the activities of the Governor’s distractors and face the realities of life.

He further told them to reciprocate the good gestures of the Governor by doing right things.
