Implosion Looms in Imo APC After Party Primaries

… Aggrieved Aspirants, Supporters Threaten To Leave

Except there are soothing measures to calm nerves among unpleasant members of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo, implosion is in the cover.

Since the end of the conduct of the party primaries for National Assembly and House of Assembly tickets, discordant tunes have been reigning in the party.

Some of the aspirants who lost have been lamenting about the conduct with an indication to leave.

The space in the state has been filled by unpleasant reactions from aspirants who lost alleging that the processes of the conduct leave much to be desired.

Trumpeta who has been monitoring reactions trailing the primaries indicate that the majority of those who lost not only allege improper conduct but also send notices of quitting the APC.

Widely circulating online posts gaining prominence in social media are unpalatable cases of two aspirants of Ahiazu Mbaise LGA lamenting how they spent less than 100 million naira each for the forms and primaries but were unable to get fair exercises.

According to them in separate videos, the exercises were a charade and undemocratic that would lead to their exit if not addressed. They were astonished how one of the candidates (names withheld) who didn’t purchase the House of Assembly form but went for that of House of Reps would be declared the winner.

“How can one who didn’t buy form for House of Assembly be handed the ticket without primaries and someone expects us to keep quiet” one of the displeased aspirants offered.

This newspaper further learnt that there is disquiet in Owerri zone, especially where the people are said to be unhappy over what stakeholders in the area described as “allocations of tickets” to one LGA.

Results of the primaries show that while Hon Tochukwu Okere and Prince Alex Mbata both of Owerri North LGA took the APC tickets to run for House of Reps and Senate respectively, other blocks like Mbaise/Ngor Okpala and Mbaitoli/ Ikeduru got nothing despite parading aspirants for Senate. Owerri Federal Constituency aspirants are complaining more about how the state governor, Hope Uzodimma would be preaching respect for equity and zoning but allowed one LGA to produce Reps and Senatorial candidates of the party.

Beyond Owerri, uneasy calm is said to be pervading others like in Ohaji/Egbema and Oru East/Orsu and Orlu Federal Constituency where some areas have been marginalized in the scheme of things.

People of the Ohaji clan in Ohaji/Egbema are still in pains losing the chance to produce a House of Reps ticket bearer for the Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency. The people are threatening to leave the APC en masse following the return ticket handed to the incumbent Hon Eugene Dibiagwu. Ohaji clan is claiming that since democracy debuted in 1999, no Ohaji person has been given the opportunity to be in the lower National Assembly to represent the Federal Constituency. With one of them, Engr Peter Chukwuemeka Akpelu showing interest and purchasing the APC form, hope for the area picking the ticket was high until Dibiagwu was announced as the winner.

In Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Federal constituency the story is the same. Okigwe North Federal Constituency is not left out in the agitation where the person announced as winner Uche Agasu was alleged not to be in the race for House of Reps but House of Assembly before others who bought forms were set aside.

Trumpeta was informed that the political class in the Federal Constituency are miffed over the manner Abasu was declared the same the centre can no longer hold in Aboh Mbaise/ Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency where uprising is in the offing following the allegations that the choice of Ngozi Pat-Ekeji was against the wish of aspirants who are alleging that due process was not followed.

Trumpeta heard that the party hierarchy in Imo State is worried over the developments as threats of likely deflection are being bandied about by displaced members.
