Uneasy calm is pervading both the state and local government work force as confusion greets the recent promotion of civil servants in the state.
Only recently, the Imo state government announced the promotion of civil servants in the state civil service in consonance with the state civil service rule.
While the workers received the kind gestured from authorities with joy, another directive and reversal of the exercise by the present administration is going on in ministries and local government offices.
More painful to the workers is government snail speed and indifference approach to payment of the new salary scale and arrears with effect from date of latest promotion.
Trumpeta learnt that while workers in the state ministries who were issued with Gen 35, paper instrument to authorize payment for new state and promotion, the new LGA workers promotion list has been withdrawn and put on hold for unconfirmed reasons. It was gathered that the withdrawal of Gen 35 and new promotion list was carefully designed by state government not to pay for the arrears of the promotion which should have been effected since 2011, when the promotion would have taken place.
The withdrawal of Gen 35 state and list of new promotion by the state government are causing serious disaffection between the present administration and workers who are spoiling for war. Mostly affected are those in the Ministry of works.
Efforts to reach the labour leaders in the state for comments proved abortive. Only one of the leaders who craved anonymity offered to state that labour is on the issue and is meeting government for amicable resolution.
