Youths drawn from all parts of Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State have unanimously passed vote of no confidence on their leaders following what they described as misrepresentations the various political positions. The youths who held solidarity meeting in Owerri on Monday 3rd February, 2014 unfolded their decision to refine all the old politicians from the political realm in the area. They further revealed their plans to reject imposition of candidates in the forthcoming general election adding that the mandate given to their ex-political representatives did not cushion the plight of Ohaji/Egbema youths.
Speaking with Journalists immediately after the meeting, the convener of the meeting, Prince Francis Ugochi Uzor described the meeting as a step in the right direction which would unite the youths and galvanize their decision towards taking leadership of the area in 2015 general elections. Prince Uzor disclosed that the youth forum has no partisan under tone but remains an umbrella body through which the youths can wake up from slumber and reject thuggery and other forms of intimidations “we are ready to produce candidates that will emerge our future political representatives ranging from the House of Assembly seat to the National Assembly. We are here today to inform all Imolites that our leaders have failed us in many ways especially in the area of human capital development. It is obvious that our leaders do dump the youths after winning elections and travel to Abuja and abroad respectively to enjoy themselves without caring for the youths who gave them their mandates,” he expressed.
He further disclosed their plans to embark on sensitization exercise in the area which would enable the youths to win the polls in all the political wards in Ohaji/Egbema in 2015 general election.
Adding his voice, the Board of Trustee Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema youths, Chief Mocher Ukwe X. alleged that their political representatives are representing their wives, children and girlfriends. Chief Ukwe maintained that the meeting is aimed at discussing the issues that affect Ohaji/Egbema youths.
“We are not working for anybody. We have decided to take our destiny into our hands. We are no more leaders of tomorrow but leaders of today. Our political leaders are failures. So, nobody can deceive us again. Leadership is not a title holder. It is the positive contribution to the society,” he lamented.
And assured that there will be sensitization movement any moment from now by his group to further entrench the youths in the polity.
