Another drama was displayed by Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Disciples last Tuesday at the International Conference Centre located along Bank Road Owerri, Imo State.
Our reporter who covered the meeting of Vote Rochas Club held at the place revealed that the venue turned to a theatre of war as the former Commissioner for Utility and Safety, Hon Ifeanyi Nwachukwu and other top government officials who were at the meeting almost lost their lives in the process of sharing the N5m cash gift that the Governor gave them.
Trouble was said to have started the moment Governor Okorocha announced the cash gift to support the group as a token of appreciation. It was reported that immediately the Governor left the venue after dropping the money to the officials, things went upside down at the venue.
The trouble escalated when Hon Ifeanyi Nwachukwu Commissioner was addressing the members on the sharing fomular.
According to an eye witness, Hon Ifeanyi Nwachukwu did not want to share the money the way he was directed by the Governor rather he wanted to do it his own way by removing some percentage out of the total money. He further announced that each of the 305 political wards of the state will get N5000 each, which infuriated the youths as they said it was unacceptable causing them to chant; “We no go gree, we no go gree”. Efforts to calm the youths were resisted as they resorted to total anarchy leading to snatching the money.
Some of the elders of APC and members of the Vote Rochas Club who were trying to escape were injured in the process as some of them lost valuables.
One of the APC women leaders in Owerri zone, Hon Mrs Nkechi Okoro expressed disappointment over the incident and blamed Dr Ifeanyi Nawchukwu for the unfortunate situation and also condemned the idea of sharing money in public by Okorocha and his Aides.
