Months after the general elections in Nigeria, trouble still surrounds the Governorship primaries the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State, as one of the Aspirants has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, demanding alleged 10,000 Dollars he offered to a top member of the Imo PDP State Executive member.
In a letter to the EFCC dated June 15,2015 the Aspirant alleged that a top member of the Imo State PDP Exco, (names withheld) collected the sum of Ten thousand dollars from him whose equivalent in naira, is N13m, to facilitate a deal that will make him come out from the exercise as the party’s flag bearer.
The petitioner, who is a former senior lawmaker Nigeria using surrogates , alleged that since after the primaries which he lost by the a whisker, he has approached the top PDP official to return the money but to no avail, hence his petition to EFCC to retrieve his money.
The petition which was signed sent on his behalf by a former Imo State House of Assembly member, the Aspirant, stated that evidences abound over the said money, as the hand-over of the money was recorded with the PDP chieftain not knowing that the “transaction” was on tape.
The petition which was directed to Director of Operations appealed to the crime body to swing into action fast, as the said official may leave the country any time from now for a phantom medical treatment in Europe.
Trumpeta source said that the alleged Imo PDP official involved in the deal is aware of the trouble, and inevitable scandal that may follow the exposure of the deal, and has asked some senior party officials to calm the Aspirant who has joined another political platform immediately he lost the Governorhip primaries.
The accused PDP official is said to have appealed to the Aspirant to give him time to “sort out the matter”, and therefore was shocked to learn that the matter has been reported at EFCC.
This newspaper learnt that the petitioner is prodding EFCC to swing into action fast, and the crime body may likely swoop on the Imo PDP official this week, to explain what he knows about the alleged ten thousand dollars deal.
Sources told Trumpeta that the Ten Thousand Dollars allegation is just a tip of the ice bag as the anti-graft will open a can of worms immediately it starts work, as a lot of water is said to have passed under the bridge during the contentious Imo PDP primaries.
“Imo people will be shocked with what would be unveiled when this matter commences”, the former Imo lawmaker who signed the petition told Trumpeta.
Meanwhile, a source from Imo PDP secretariat told Trumpeta that none of it official has been accused of bribe, non invited by EFCC, adding that Imo PDP Exco is made up of men of integrity, and therefore not afraid of petition from any disgruntled governorship Aspirant.
“We want to see the petition and invitation from EFCC, Imo PDP primaries took place about six months ago and somebody is trying to smear the image of Imo PDP Executive now we cannot take that nonsense”. An Imo PDP Executive member told Trumpeta.
