Unless the Lord watch over us, the security men they say, watches in vain.  Those were the exact words of Mrs Joy Njoku who was rescued by divine intervention in the hands of fierce looking armed kidnappers.

The ugly incident happened on Saturday, 31st of March, 2012 at about 6,30pm around Awo – Mbieri near Ebum Mbieri, as a family of six, were chased by kidnappers with six motor bikes.

Speaking to Imo Trumpeta, the traumatized victim (Joy) a Headmistress in one of the primary schools at Umuagwo, managed to recall the incident to our reporter.  She explained that she was traveling with her family and they barely noticed that the young men numbering about 12, were trailing them quietly, until they got to the lonely area around Awo Mbieri before her son, Chimaroke Njoku got wind of their intentions.  According to her, they double crossed us and ordered every one to get out of the car, including a nine month old baby.  As the rest of the family where disembarking from the car, Maroke as he is fondly called, managed to put on the security lock of the car, and after the hoodlums had collected all their valuables including the sum of 100,000 naira and their handsets, they then kidnapped Mrs Joy who just lost her husband to a strange illness.

She explained further, “the kidnappers apparently not aware that the car had been put on security lock, got confused on their way, and without any other means of transportation, abandoned the vehicle and decided to take to their heels when they observed that some of the villagers were chasing after them with the son of their victim”.

Mrs Njoku, one of also told ‘Imo Trumpeta’ that while the kidnappers had her under custody, she over – heard them telling their colleagues who apparently hails from Mbieri, that he should lead the way as some of them didn’t come from that area.  She further stated that they also planned to take her to Mbano. As these arguments were on to keep her went on among them, adding that this was an inside job with people from other areas, and that her good Lord will continue to keep her family.
