All things being equal, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Imo State chapter will hold its Congress on August 2015, to replace the State, LGA, and Ward Execuives whose tenure ended in November, 2014, but were asked to remain in office in acting capacity until another congress is held.
According to impeccable sources close to Trumpeta Newspaper, the chairmanship position has elicited a lot of interests from contestants who want to take-over the position presently occupied by Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, from Nkwerre LGA, Imo State.
Trumpeta learnt that those eyeing the chairmanship position are dominated by politicians from Okigwe zone, who insist that it is the turn of the zone to produce the next Imo PDP Boss.
Among those jostling for the slot are the likes of present South East Zonal Auditor, Chief Ragis Uwakwe from Ehime Mbano LGA, Chief Sam Osuji of Isiala Mbano LGA and Chief George Egu, the PDP State Secretary from Ihitte Uboma LGA.
Trumpeta learnt that Okigwe zone PDP is spoiling for war, should the PDP chairmanship position elude the zone this time.
Trumpeta was informed that since the inception of the current political dispensation, Owerri zone and Orlu zones have dominated the chairmanship position of the Imo PDP.
One of the Aspirants who spoke to Trumpeta in confidence made it clear that Okigwe zone has contributed immensely to the growth and success of Imo PDP and therefore deserves to be given a sense of belonging by allowing the zone to produce the next state chairman of the party .
Okigwe zone is claiming that since 1999, Owerri zone has produced chairmen in the persons of Chief ID Nwoga, Nze PC Onuoha, Dr Alex Obi, Chief Marcon Nlemigbo, Chief Rowland Anyanwu and others.
Orlu has produced Chief Eze Duruiehoma and the incumbent Chairman, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, while Okigwe had only occupied the position in a temporary position under Dr Edy Anyanwu which lasted briefly.
Trumpeta learnt that Anambra State, who is in the same category with Imo State, held its own congress last weekend, while that of Imo has been billed for next month August.
Trumpeta learnt that forms for the various categories of positions would soon be on sale at the party’s office, located at Okigwe road, Owerri.
This Newspaper learnt that there would be a “clean-up” as almost all the present Imo PDP Exco members are leaving office, except those among them who scale through the congress that will take place from the Ward to State levels.
Meanwhile, the Aspirants from Okigwe zone have already started consulting with all strata of PDP members across the State.
Meanwhile, whether the Okigwe zone PDP argument that the zone should be left to produce Anyaehie’s successor is yet to scale through as the argument is getting serious challenges from other zones who insist that the position should be thrown open for all.
“PDP chairmanship position is usually zoned if the party produced the Governor of the State. But now that there is no PDP Governor in Imo State, the position is open to all zones” A top PDP chieftain told Trumpeta.
