Okaforanyanwu wants Transport Fares Reduced in Imo

The Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Prince Lasbery Okaforanyanwu has called on the leadership of the Transport Union/Associations operating in the state to reduce the high rate of transport fare in the state, especially town service operators.Commissioner Okaforanyanwu made the call during an enlarged meeting of the transport stakeholders held at the conference room of the Ministry.

The Transport Commissioner who was represented by the supervising Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Chibuzo Iwuagwu commended the leaders & members of the various transport unions operating in the state for their support towards the on­going transformation in the transport sector in the state and appealed to them to reduce the transport fare in the state to N50 per drop, among the town service commuters, considering the fact that the pump price of (PMS) petrol has reduced to N143 per litre.

Commissioner Okaforanyanwu who stressed also on the need for town service operators in the state to carry one passenger in the front and three passengers at the back, reminded them of the fact that the passengers they carry are their own people, relatives and deserves some comfort while they are been conveyed from one place to another within the municipality.

He equally pointed out that soon the Taxi mo and Busimo will be routed by the ministry, in order to ensure that people that lives in any part of the municipality and its environs would benefit from the transport scheme. He therefore enjoined Imolites to always copy the fleet number of any taximo or busimo they board, so that in the case of any eventuality, once they call the taximo and busimo office at I.T.C premises along Uratta Road, such vehicle could be tracked and apprehended by security operators.

According to the Commissioner Okaforanyanwu, he said that all the vehicles operating under the taximo and busimo franchise scheme are tracked and are been monitored on daily basis, as one of the measures put in place by the government to checkmate crime s one-chance-syndrome, kidnapping and other vices.
