OWERRI METROPOLIS LIONS CLUB INAUGURATERS EXECUTIVE.

The Owerri Metropolis Lions Club has organized an in – door handover ceremony of her 4th president, Board of Directors and induction of new members as well as fund raising for community projects.

Speaking, the chairman of the occasion and the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer Emex Global LTD, Chief Emma Ugorji who was represented by the manager, Emels Cottage Suites, Owerri, Mr John Amadi explained that Lions Club is a humanitarian organization which renders selfless services to people in need.

Chief Ugorji noted that membership of the club is voluntary adding that the nature of services the club renders to humanity contradicts the composition of its logo which has two fearful faces.

He enjoined citizens of the state especially the well – to – do individuals to join the club in order to give the less privileged a sense of belonging.

In his remarks, the regional chairman of Lion Club, Mr Ogbonna Nwannunu maintained that the club has in the recent years intervened in areas of need including youth action programme, opening eyes, reading action programmes, environmental and paediatrics under 8 years.

Mr Nwannunu called for government involvement in the affairs of the club to create conducive environment for its operation disclosing that international association also assist in counterpart funding through which they released the sum of 3 million dollars to eradicate river blindness.

The immediate past President of the Club said the association has visited about 6 Motherless Babies Homes, Prisons and Hospitals donating toiletries, food stuff, drip sets and clothes recalling that it had embarked on road safety awareness campaign, tree planting campaign and immunization campaign.

Responding, the President Mr. Chidiebere Okereafor enumerated his line of activities as donation of two wheel chairs to the disabled persons, brail materials to the school of deaf and dumb, carrying out diabetes awareness campaign, HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, free eye test and issue of eye glasses and promised to lift the club to higher level.
