The renewed demolition of buildings in some parts of the state by the Imo State government is attracting negative reactions from some quarters who are accusing the Okorocha led administration of engaging in endless vendetta since it took over power in May 2011.

Joining the condemnations is the People’s Democratic Party, the PDP who has accused the Governor of using the ploy of fighting flood to engage in political vendetta by allegedly bulldozing the houses and property of perceived political enemies in the state.

This view was expressed in a statement by the PDP and made available to Trumpeta yesterday. According to a statement signed by the publicity secretary of the state ram of the party, Chief Blyden Amajirionwu who also condemned the list of members of the CGC which the party described as an imposition on the people, the demolition of the warehouse at Amakohia belonging to the Anayehie family of Nkwerre Local Government is a clear indication that the state Governor has set out to deal with supposed political foes by hiding under the cloak of  preventing flood in the state through demolition of structures.

The party went on to say that rather than finish some of the projects initiated by the past administrations which would have curbed flooding in Owerri, like the abandoned ring road started by the ohakim administration which was designed in such a  manner that the drainage system would arrest any form of flooding in Owerri, Okorocha is busy pursuing political foes.

“The point being made is that there already exists an expert master plan for the control of floods in Owerri that would work perfectly without demolishing any houses”, PDP said

The party further added that the masses would resist Okorocha’s vendetta, pointing out that the imposition of Town Union officials in the name of CGC is abnormal and speaks volume of the Governor’s relationship with the late military dictator, Late General Sani Abacha as his acts are similar to the authoritarian and fascist regime of the deceased Kano-born soldier.
