Suspected Cultists made a fruitless mission to Egbema Autonomous Community, in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State as the gangsters were not given the opportunity to carryout their nefarious activities to stop Iriji Egbema (New yam festival of the people).
According to an illustrious son of the area who wants his name not mentioned, the uproar in the autonomous community could be traceable to the Ezeship tussle over who succeeds the late traditional ruler of Egbema Autonomous Community, Eze Sunday N.A Uzor.
The suspected cultists were discovered to have camped in the house of a resident, (names withheld) an indigene of Egbema, who is suspected to be the youth leader of a government organ.
The saga began to manifest when the members of a local vigilante group in the area alerted the public of the presence of the suspected cultist who were seen at public drinking palours in the community in strange behaviour. It was noted that a suspected female member of the group let the cat out when she broke two bottles on the air, which frightened the people around to start getting worried on the rate of strange faces, in the community it was alleged that the suspected sponsor of the cult group was heard discussing on phone asking the gang of there where about and if they were set for action. The eye witness added that when it became obvious that the identity of the hoodlums have been decoded, the said female cultist pulled a gun and started shooting sporadically, an action that alerted the villagers to set for a reprisal.
Noticing the danger, the suspected cultists jumped into their motorcycle and escaped from the scene. At that moment the female member was quickly apprehend as she tried to escape. However, luck ran out of the fleeing cultists when they were later caught by members of the Nigeria police at the River/Imo State boarder who confirmed the identity of the hoodlums as cultists.
Meanwhile, the arrested hoodlums are cooling off at the police net and helping the police in their investigation as the police command has confirmed that they are on top of the action.
